Compare two trade job offers
Use this with a careers adviser, employer or training provider. Write down what each offer actually includes; leave unknown details blank and ask for clarification.
Download the one-page checklist (PDF)No account or email is needed to download it. Fill it in on paper; UKTJ does not receive your answers. You may print and share the unchanged checklist with learners or advisers without a reciprocal link.
1. Employer and work
Who is the employer, where will I work, and what tasks will I actually do?
2. Pay and hours
What is the gross base pay, its hourly or annual basis, the guaranteed paid hours and the overtime arrangement?
3. Time and travel
What are the start/finish times, locations, call-outs, travel time and any overnight stays?
4. Costs and equipment
Who provides tools, PPE and transport? What costs or deductions should I ask about before accepting?
5. Training and support
Which qualification or apprenticeship route is offered, who supervises me, and how is training time arranged?
6. Contract and next step
What are the employment status, start date and written terms? Who can answer the points still unclear?
Choose the offer whose pay, work, training and practical costs you understand. A higher headline rate alone does not settle the decision.
For apprenticeships, check the current minimum wage conditions for your age and training year. Career salary ranges describe qualified work and should not be substituted for your written apprentice offer. Confirm the training arrangements for your UK nation with your provider.
