Frequently Asked Questions
For more help, see the National Careers Service guide to writing a CV (England). This builder is a writing tool, not a qualification check.
Is this CV builder really free?+
Yes. You can build, preview and download a PDF without paying or creating an account. Saving an editable copy to your account is optional.
Do I need a CV for trade jobs?+
Check the job advert: an employer may ask for a CV, an application form or a direct enquiry. Use your CV to show the experience and qualifications relevant to that role. It does not guarantee an interview.
What should I include in a trade CV?+
Include contact details you want employers to use, relevant skills, work or placement history and qualifications you actually hold. Copy qualification and card names from your records and check expiry dates. You can leave sections blank if they do not apply.
How long should a tradesperson's CV be?+
Keep it concise and easy to scan. Prioritise details relevant to the advert, use short bullets and check the PDF for awkward page breaks before sending it.
What if I have no trade experience yet?+
Choose “No trade experience yet”. You can describe relevant study, projects, work placements or volunteering, making clear what you did and whether you worked under supervision. Do not add qualifications or work you have not completed.
Can I save my CV as a PDF?+
Yes. On the preview step, choose "Download PDF" for a CV-only file. You can also print the CV or copy its text into a document app. No account is needed to download.
